Former Surf Dawg Keasey to play lacrosse at Yale
CDM senior and former Surf Dawg Michael Keasey will play collegiate lacrosse at Yale University
After returning home in late-July from a whirlwind summer tour of lacrosse camps and recruiting showcases on the East Coast, the All-County and All Pacific Coast League midfielder accepted Yale Coach Andy Shay's offer of a spot in the Bulldogs' 2012 freshman recruiting class.
"I chose Yale because during my two visits to the school, I really felt like I would fit in on campus," said Keasey. "Yale also has a very prestigious academic record and a good medical program that will help me tremendously with my goals in life. I loved the coaching staff and the overall attitude of the team, and felt I could contribute at their level of play."
In addition to Yale, Keasey also considered Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard and Notre Dame.
When he arrives on campus at Yale University, Keasey will become the fifth player in four years to go on to play collegiate lacrosse at its highest level. He joins the elite company of former CDM standouts Noah Molnar '09 (Midfield/Lehigh), Ryan Mix '10 (Attack/Notre Dame), Blake Burkhart '10 (Defense & Face-Off Specialist/Rutgers) and Donald Dalton '11 (Defense/Drexel).
"For Michael to have this terrific opportunity presented to him is a tribute to his talent and hard work," said CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "He is not only a very good high school lacrosse player, but a very dedicated student. It is his tireless work ethic in both arenas which enabled him to reach such an enviable position."
With respect to its lacrosse program, one thing is certain. CDM is doing something right. Opportunities offered to lacrosse players on the West Coast to play for NCAA Division I programs are rare, yet the Sea Kings consistently place players on top teams at schools with reputations for academic excellence.
"I think it is a reflection of the quality of Corona del Mar High School and the type of young men we have in our lacrosse program," Mix said of the Sea Kings' string of Division I commitments. "Sure, I know many of these college coaches and I am familiar with their programs. Those things are certainly helpful in trying to establish the right fit for a kid. But it is the quality of the academic environment at CDM and the determination these kids have to be the very best student-athletes they can be that ultimately creates the terrific opportunities they are offered."
In addition to its Surf Dawg alumni playing in Division I programs, the Sea King lacrosse program boasts several recent graduates playing club lacrosse at various colleges and universities across the country. The Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) offers a very high level of collegiate lacrosse at many of the schools not currently offering NCAA varsity status.
Below is a listing of recent CDM alumni playing at MCLA schools:

Connor Pinkston / Midfield / Loyola Marymount
